Xbox Owners Finally Have Cheaper Storage Expansion Card Options

Xbox Owners will be glad to hear Seagate finally has some competition for storage expansion cards, and Western Digital is undercutting its rival on price.

Since launch, Seagate has been the only company to offer 512GB, 1TB, and 2TB expansion cards for the Xbox Series X and Series S consoles. They came at a high price, costing $139.99, $219.99, and $399.99 respectively.

Western Digital has hit the ground running and undercut Seagate on price from day one. You can pick up the 500GB version of the company's expansion card for $79.99, and the 1TB version for $149.99. It's possible to pick up Seagate's cards for similar prices through retailer discounts, but competition from Western Digital is sure to keep them low and hopefully push them even lower in the future.

There's no mention of a 2TB expansion card from Western Digital, but no doubt it will be introduced if the company sees demand for such a card.

PlayStation 5 owners have much more flexibility in their storage expansion options as Sony allows any M.2 SSD that's fast enough to be slotted into the expansion port on the console. It's also possible to add up to 4TB of additional storage, doubling what's available to Xbox owners. 250GB SSDs are also supported.
