World of Warcraft: Twitch Drops for $2000 WoW Trading Card Game Mount to be free soon

For its most recent Twitch Drop promotion, World of Warcraft is once again dipping into the pool of extremely rare World of Warcraft Trading Card Game mounts. The Blazing Hippogryph, a mount that was previously restricted to the defunct WoW Trading Card Game that ended in 2013, can be unlocked by Twitch users who watch four hours of WoW: Dragonflight content from authorized streams from May 9 to 17.

Another TCG-exclusive item is also up for grabs, however, the mount is a major attraction. Four hours of qualifying Dragonflight content must be watched between May 2 and May 9 in order to qualify for the Ethereal Portal toy. To access the drops, players must connect their Battle.net and Twitch accounts.

$2000 WoW Trading Card

The cards used to activate the Blazing Hippogryph and Ethereal Portal in-game can still be used to do so (using a 25-digit scratch-off code included on each card), but due to their high cost on online auction sites like eBay, only the most devoted mount or toy collectors ever had the opportunity to add these to their collections.

On eBay, a Blazing Hippogryph card with an unused code can fetch up to $2,000, and the Portal Stone card required to open the Ethereal Portal can get up to $300.

Rare mounts

Blizzard has already made scarce mounts available via Twitch. The Feldrake, a mount that formerly cost around $3,000 and generated some controversy at the time, was the first TCG mount the developer gave away back in October 2022.

Another TCG mount, the Big Battle Bear, has been made available by Blizzard as part of an Amazon Prime Gaming promotion for the past month. Fans have been led to believe that even additional TCG mounts, including the widely desired Spectral Tiger mount, may be forthcoming.

Dragon-riding zone

The next Twitch drop campaign coincides with the launch of Embers of Neltharion, Dragonflight's significant 10.1 patches, which will include a new raid and dragon-riding zone and launch new Mythic+ and PvP seasons.

Cross-faction guilds will also be introduced in the update, which has been much anticipated. According to the content roadmap for WoW, Embers of Neltharion is the first of two significant new upgrades scheduled for 2023.
