Madden might have a vendetta against Steelers with Minkah Fitzpatrick rating

Pittsburgh Steelers fans will not like where Minkah Fitzpatrick falls on the safety rankings in Madden NFL 23.

Every year, EA Sports releases a new Madden NFL video game across all platforms. In the lead-up to its release, the video game production company releases the ratings of players across the league. With that, comes heated debates over who is ranked too high, and who is ranked too low.

Pittsburgh Steelers fans will not be pleased with the safety rankings released on July 20. Minkah Fitzpatrick, the team's star defensive back, was ranked just outside the top 10, earned an 89 rating. Fitzpatrick is ranked one spot below Jamal Adams, who ranked No. 10 amongst safeties in the new video game.

Steelers fans can not be pleased with the latest release of rankings. Earlier in the week, edge rusher and reigning NFL Defensive Player of the Year T.J. Watt was ranked as the second-best at his position with a 96 rating. Myles Garrett of the Cleveland Browns was ranked the No. 1 edge rusher with a 99 rating.

Fitzpatrick joined the Steelers back in 2019 when they acquired him from the Miami Dolphins, the team that selected him 11th-overall the year prior. He was an immediate difference maker on Pittsburgh's defense, making the All-Pro First team and the Pro Bowl in the 2019 and 2020 seasons.

This past season, Fitzpatrick recorded 124 combined tackles, seven passes defended, two interceptions, one forced fumble, and one fumble recovery through 16 games. In coverage, Fitzpatrick allowed 35 receptions for 404 yards and two touchdowns on 56 targets, per Pro Football Reference.

In his three seasons with the Steelers, Fitzpatrick posted 203 combined tackles, 27 defended passes, 11 interceptions, four fumble recoveries, and three forced fumbles.

This offseason, the Steelers made sure that he would not hit free agency in the near future, signing him to a four-year, $73.6 million contract extension.

While Fitzpatrick's rating may be low now, there is always the chance that it increases in subsequent updates. But, Steelers fans can't be happy that at the game's launch, he will not be a top 10 ranked safety.
