The PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions of Gotham Knights have been canceled, Warner Bros. Games announced Tuesday.
The brief announcement was dropped alongside the upcoming game's brand-new gameplay demo trailer, confirming as well that Gotham Knights will still be released on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC.
"To provide players with the best possible gameplay experience," the Gotham Knights official website statement reads, "the game will release on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC and will not be available for PlayStation 4 or Xbox One consoles."
As initially first announced in 2020, Gotham Knights is publisher Warner Bros. Games
and developer WB Games Montréal's upcoming open-world, third-person action RPG featuring the Batman Family.
In this all-new original story, Batman is dead and an expansive, criminal underworld has swept through the streets of Gotham City. Complete with unique combat and traversal abilities, the crime-stopping has been left to the rest of the "bat family" â Robin, Batgirl, Nightwing and Red Hood.
It's up to this new guard of trained DC Super Heroes to rise up and protect the citizens of Gotham City while solving the mysteries that "connect the darkest chapters in the cityâs history" and, of course, beat back the most notorious villains of the franchise.
The full game will be playable either solo or with a friend in two-player, online co-op. Cross-play support is not planned at this time.
Gotham Knights is set to release for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC (via Steam and Epic Games Store) on Oct. 25, 2022.
